Samenvatting

This research focuses on designing and creating tiny, molecule-sized motors and switches that respond to light. These nanostructures are explored to understand how they are built, how they function, and even how they can be incorporated into phospholipids – a crucial component of all cell membranes, which help to protect and organize cells, the building blocks of all living things. The study also examines a clever system that combines multiple light-responsive switches and investigates how placing these molecules in tight spaces influences how they react to light. These discoveries can lead to new inventions in medicine, technology, and materials.
